2013/2014 Varsity Preview

Here is a preview of our 2013 Varsity Wrestling Team! We welcome returning state placers, new wrestlers, and everyone in between.

Danny Freitag - This Sr. has been on the variety staff since his Freshman year. He has battled through injuries and is ready to give it his all for his final high school season.

Al Aguilar - Last year, Al would have qualified for state had it not been for injuries late in the year. Spending his freshman year up with the varsity will pay dividends for this talented Sophomore this year and in years to come.

Ryan Sanchez - Entering his fourth season in the sport of wrestling, Sanchez hopes to leave his mark on the program. Entering the program and a freshman with no experience, Sanchez has worked hard and placed at Sophomore CCLs, and is now ready to do the same on the varsity level.

Emerson Harris - Harris worked extremely hard in the off-season to make sure that his senior year is full of the success he has been eying since first tying on his wrestling shoes. Working out with students from other high schools as well as Triton College in the summer has set him up for a great run in his final high school season.

Mike Smyla - This Junior enters the season fresh off of finishing 3rd in the Sophomore CCL tournament to close out last season. Smyla has all kinds of ability and talent and is hoping to make a name for himself in the years to come.

Matt Bindon - Another Junior, Bindon comes to the team after two successful seasons on the lower levels. Matt has tremendous mat presence and will be a contributor to the Friars current and future success

Ben Uphues - After an off-season full of freestyle competition, the Fenwick coaches are excited to see what Ben will be able to accomplish now that he is an upper-classmen. The sky is the limit for Ben and his talent

Jim Wise - A Senior with ikwf experience, Wise is ready to grab a starting spot and make the most of his senior year.

Jack Giacoma - New to the program, Senior Jack Giacoma is hoping to learn what it takes to become a Fenwick Wrestler, and what it takes to be a champion.

Mike Kozyra - Fresh off of his 4th place finish in the state finals, Kozyra has come into his Senior year with his sights set on the top of the podium.

Kevin Marzo - As a Junior, Marzo joined the team with no previous wrestling experience. As a Senior, he looks to take advantage of all the work he has put into the weight room and into his preseason conditioning.

Aaron Garland - This young man is someone who wrestled for Fnwick's ikwf team years ago. The team is excited to have Garland back on the team to make a run at state. His previous experience and athletic ability are enough to make any Friar Wrestling fan excited.

Chris Hawthorne - Entering his Junior year, Hawthorne is looking to have his talent match his results in 2014. With a tremendous amour of physical talent, the sky is the limit for Hawthorne. Finishing 4th in the regional last year, Hawthorne has is eyes set on advancing to Sectionals and on to State.

Nick Sacramento - A Senior who began wrestling as a freshman, Sacramento has gained much experience over the year. A Frosh/Soph State qualifier, Sacramento knows what it is like to compete among some of the state's best. This year, he hopes to again compete for state accolades.
