Champions Are Made In The Off-Season

The Fenwick Wrestling Team has wasted no time in preparing for the next season and the next level. As soon as the Varsity was through with the IHSA season, members of the team were getting back in the room to participate in open-room workouts. These sessions give the team the opportunity to come in and work on getting better. While much of the team is participating in Spring sports, some are finding the time to get the work in.

The coaches are constantly telling the younger guys that the way to get better is to get at least 20 off-season matches. This weekend, Steven Barshop, Al Aguilar, and Jackson Haeflinger took the first steps toward accomplishing this goal. They traveled to Niles West High School Sunday to compete in the Frosh/Soph Regional Wrestling Championships. Barshop went 1-2 and DNP despite wrestling well. Haeflinger punched his ticket to the Sectional Championships with a win over Elk Grove HS on his way to placing 2nd. Aguilar was the tournament Champion, winning 6-0 in the quarters, pinning in the semis, and winning by tech fall (15-0) in the finals. The Sectional Championships will be Sunday March 9th at Evanston HS.
Haeflinger - 2nd Place
